HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONJA...
Almost two weeks ago it was Sonja's birthday and I never know what to get her so I thought I would make something instead...
I stumbled over this idea by Sarah Carrington on the Bubbly Funk forum. She had used the technique to decorate a frame but I thought I would do it as a canvas with a framed quotation added to it.
Basically I stuck wooden letters to the canvas and then coated with gesso... then I coated with sky blue paint by Claudine Helmuth then added a crackle glaze. It was then coated with Claudine's traditional tan...took ages as each coat had to dry thoroughly before the next one was added...I then swiped over the letters with walnut stain distress ink and also the edges of the canvas. I stamped and embossed the quotation onto card that I had added distress ink to and then made a frame which I covered with washi tape. the flower is one we received in a Scarlet Lime mixed media kit which was bright yellow but I pained red and Midge (which Sonja gave me for my birthday) is stamped onto text patterned card...
The card is done using the masking tape method I was trying out a couple of weeks ago with Midge masked before inking. The washi tape is a smudge I was trying to cover but I think it just adds to the overall look...xxx

HAPPY BIRTHDAY...
Yesterday was my friend Liz's birthday so I decided to experiment. ..I found this technique on Pinterest. ..basically you get lengths of masking tape and lay them on top of your ink pad sticky side down and rub the ink on then stick it to your card. I used Stampin Up ink. Then you peel it of and hey presto the ink is left behind. I thought it was really neat. ..
Anyway happy birthday Liz. Hope you had a good day! !!

A little bit of Kate...
Last week Kate from The Kathryn Wheel posted a tutorial for a tag so I thought I would ave a go...tried t with a couple of different colour combinations. Lots of smooshing with Dylusion Inks, stenciling, stamping with my new Stampotique stamps and flicking of paint later this is how they turned out.
I glittered each of the little hearts on their sweaters for a little bit of bling!! And I also dyed some seam binding using distress stains.
Can't wait to go to 3D Jean at the end of October with Sonja for Kate's class!!

I HEART CANVAS...
I've done another canvas...as per usual it's nothing like it started out as...didn't like it so I changed half way through to one I found in Craft Stamper either last month or the month before...
I love these little balloon shapes and so easy to do...make your shape out of wire, adhere to the backing of your choice, cut round the shape and then fill with glossy accents or even crackle accents...great effect!
I used an old wooden heart here, giving it much the same colour effect as the canvas itself, then I stamped up some tissue paper with a huge text stamp and stuck it down and then covered the whole thing with crackle accent...I love the effect that gives...The small heart is the centre of a Tim Holtz stamp covered with more glossy accent.
This is a lovely quote from a Unity stamp which I like also stamped on tissue and stuck down...I should have left it alone though as it's a little squint!!
Thanks for looking!!!

ST JOHNSTONE....
On Monday we travelled down to Perth...My son Morgan has just signed for St Johnstone Pro-Youth U15s (he's a goalkeeper and at 14 is already taller than me and just about as tall as his dad!)...we are very proud of him and his footballing achievements!!
He has played for Dyce Boys Club for the last 18 months or so and they have done fantastically well this season winning all but the Scottish Cup...he was awarded Players' Player last week at their presentation. Two of his team mates Elliot and Josh have also signed...
Congratulations to them all and very well deserved!

QUIRKY...
I was on Facebook the other day and a post came up for a card using a Stampotique stamp and some washi tape, it reminded me of some monster cards I did a while ago using the Hero Arts monster digi stamps and lots of splattered paint...
And this is what I came up with...I used Dylusion Inks to make the splatter this time...The Lovely Girl one has already gone and I'm going to use the Birthday Girl one for Niamh as it's her 8th birthday on Thursday!
Enjoy the sunshine if you have it...a couple more dance classes and that's us officially on summer holidays...off to meet up with Sonja this afternoon.

Teacher Thank You...
In most parts of Scotland I think this is the last day of term and with that comes the Thank You gift and card for the teacher(or teachers in our case, we have 5 between the two girls still at primary school!)
I am very proud of the fact that I have had mine(along with my next door neighbour and my sister-in-laws) made and ready to hand out about 3 weeks ago... I opted for a simple card as I was making so many and I painted, stamped and embossed the apple with the teacher's name on one side and from ??? on the other... I hope they liked them.
Well hope that whenever you get your summer holidays that you enjoy them and lets hope that they bring some much needed sunshine with them.

ANOTHER CANVAS...
I've done another canvas along the same lines as the butterfly ones that I love to make..and they are a great way to use up all your patterned paper scraps...you know the ones you keep because they might just be the colour/pattern you need for a project...haha..I have two drawers full of these!!
This one is slightly smaller...
I love stamping on tissue paper and mod podging it onto canvases as the white of the tissue all but disappears with the glue...
I also love these heart balloon stamps by Paperbag Studios who do some fab stamps..
One more day of school and then we are finished for 46 days and counting!!!

WEE CANVAS...
Just a wee canvas that I started a while ago...texture paste through the alpha stencil and lots of messy paints...it's been sitting on my desk for ages waiting for the right finishing touch and I had the quotation stamp set out for the card in the post below and it just seemed right...
Really should go now as I am supposed to be at potted sports by now...hope you all have a great day and really hope the rain stays off!!

VINTAGE TAGGY LOVLINESS....
Last week I made these tags for a lady who contacted me through Facebook.... she was organising her friend's hennie with a vintage theme.
7 tags with the quote "time to drink champagne and dance on the tables" which I typed up using my vintage manual typewriter...and miraculously no mistakes!!! I stamped some flowers over the tags with tattered rose distress ink, stamped up the names, shabbied up the edges and added some lace and pearls...
I really like how they turned out and she was delighted with them...
I have a card and gift to blog as well but will wait til tomorrow as they are for a birthday...

THANK YOU CANVAS...
A couple of weeks ago a very nice friend gave me a HUGE bag of blank canvases which she found when she had been clearing out... they had been her daughter's and they had been forgotten about and she was being ruthless with the clearing out:0)
I saw the start of a canvas on my travels through the world wide web and thought it was lovely...Think it was on the One Fine Day blogspot...
I covered the 12"x12" canvas with cut up scraps of patterned paper and then gave it a wash with some of Claudine's Landscape Green mixed with Canvas and some water... I then added a sequin waste mask using black and white and the negative side as well...
The beautiful doily pattern was done using a huge doily mask I have(can't remember where from)... I mixed up some texture paste with more of the green paint and then spread it over(I taped a couple of edges with masking tape to hold it)... looked great and I was very nervous peeling it of but it worked brilliantly as you can see...I finished it by rubbing my black inkpad round the edges...
I stamped up the huge butterfly by tattered angels which I have had for ages...I then added a few rub on butterflies, stamped the quote(which I found on the Internet) onto book pages and mod podged on...
I am going to give this to Eleanor as a thank you for the canvases which will be put to good use....

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY...
It's been a busy month so far so no time for blogging...kids been back at school for a week now after the Easter break....
The last day of the holidays was Morgan and Ellie's 14th and 13th birthdays...and as typical teenagers did not want to spend any time with us...lol...did manage to get a couple of photos of them both but I don't dare post them...haha!!! Instead I will show you the birthday cards I made for them...I saw this card the other week on Sarah's Cards blog and thought it was rather cool...I was originally just going to do it for Morgan and then decided it would look just as cool in girly colours too...I love the label maker sentiments and I always forget I have one til I see someone else using it so thanks for the inspiration Tracy
Still can't quite believe I have a 14 year old and a 13 year old...where does time go???
This one was for my little next door neighbour Cara who turned 9 this last week....It's inspired by this one by Emilie Chamel...I love her style of work...

A LITTLE BIRDIE TOLD ME...
This is another of my tutorial efforts....I made this and another similar one around Christmas time...i really wasn't feeling well...almost 5 weeks with flu so it took me a while:0))
I kept this one and gave the other to Sonja as a belated Christmas present. I forgot to photograph it but maybe she will show it to you on her blog if you ask her nicely!!
As soon as I saw the post on the Scattered Scarlet blog I knew I wanted to try it out...I ordered the stamps(and a couple more besides!!) and made two...The house is a stamp that my friend Judy stamped up a few times for me when I was over one day...it's just so cute!!
Anyway you can find the tutorial on this Scattered Scarlet blog post!!!

A GOOD HEART...
A few weeks ago I thought I would try out one of the tutorials over at A Sprinkle of Imagination using a heart...I thought I would do two slightly different ones with the intention of using one as a giveaway on my Facebook Page...
This is the first one and the second one started out the same but a slightly different colour and I didn't like it so it got changed to this one below which is a different take on the wedding canvas a few posts below...lol...
I love the stripey sides painted in black and white...
This is what I gave to Allan on Valentine's Day...I think I will add the date of our wedding to it just to finish it off...
Hope you haven't got too much snow wherever you are today... we seem to have loads!!!

KEEPING UP...
Yes Sonja, so far I am keeping up(with LOs anyway!!!)
This is my page for February for my Project Life album that I started this year...so far I am keeping up with the LOs but not so much with the 6x4 pockets...but at least a little bit more happened in February than January so I have something to journal about!
This is our cute new puppy which we should be getting near the end of April...he is a Tibetan Terrier that we have named Alfie..this being the only name we had for our fourth baby who turned out to be a girl(Niamh)!!
I have kick started my scrapbooking with an Art Class Workshop from twopeasinabucket by Wilna Furstenberg which I have to say I am really enjoying...

FINISHED CANVAS...
As promised here is the finished canvas...
I reprinted the photograph onto Claudine Helmuth stickyback canvas for a softer feel...the papers used are from Glitz Cashmere Dame collection which I love... I did go and make a heart using almost the same identical process as this without the photograph...I will post that later...
Thanks for looking!

SNEAK PEAK...
A little sneak peak of a canvas I made for someone to give to their wife on Valentine's Day..
First of all I covered the canvas with blocks of patterned paper from a 6x6 Glitz pack called cashmere dame which is all lovely and vintagey...just my thing...I reprinted the photo onto sticky back canvas to give it the shabby vintage feel as well...painted the initials black and sanded them and added a pretty flower made from book pages...my favourite!
I added a tag into a glassine envelope so the giver can write their own special message...gave the matting a bit of a spritz with some Mr Huey calico white mister...
There is a doily in behind for another touch of vintage and finally the addition (after much hunting and getting some more from Sonja!) I added these two little veneer people to a heart!
It is a very pretty canvas and I haven't added the full size photo as it's for Valentine's Day and I don't want it seen before the big day...I will post this later...
